About the Show
Emojitown is a unique series based on the emoji® brand. All of the young characters in the show are relatable, even while facing some hilariously absurd situations. I also love that the series has global appeal since these characters don’t speak any particular language. This series has no traditional word dialogue, which fits perfectly with the Emoji concept.
Emojis are our global visual language, and this series avoids the use of traditional dialogue to appeal to a broad international audience without language barriers. This YouTube series is also specifically aimed at teens and younger adults, an audience that uses emojis frequently for self-expression across social media.
A Uniquely “Language-Agnostic” Animated Series
Recording efforts and improvising sounds for thoughts, expressions, and actions for this was a welcomed challenge, and thanks to the always awesome team at Pepsqually, that challenge was met, exceeded, and a lot of fun!
This is an animated series with a very visually appealing character animation style, while also being very familiar to anyone who has ever used emojis to express themselves. The show’s original characters include Jo, Jaya, Jess, Jon, Jay, Julia, Jex, and Chad, as well as other quirky characters such as PoopHead and The Unicorn Family.
The characters in Emojitown authentically represent different ethnicities, genders, abilities, and sexualities as diverse and representative as real life. As a Black Female Voice Actor, I appreciate being able to represent a cool character like Jaya!
