A Cool thing about being a Voice Actor?

Playing video games and calling it job research!

Video Games sometimes feel like immersing yourself in a movie, and smartphones and tablets make daily gameplay more convenient than ever. As a voice actor, I get to call my hours of gameplay, and my hoarding of games old and new my job. #ilovemyjob

I’m a fan of all types of games, but through voiceover, I developed a true appreciation HOPA (Hidden Object Puzzle Adventure) games.

The suspense… The problem-solving… The memorable characters… I love it all!

With action-based games (RPG, FPS, MOBA) it’s fun to battle as the hero or the villain, and I have a warm place in my heart for a good villain! Whether yelling battle cries or softly casting spells, I’m all in for the excitement, the adrenaline, and the challenge of action-packed quests, epic battles, obligatory gloating, and ultimately defeating all of my enemies.

Then there’s the relaxing feeling of playing Cozy Games. They offer a much-needed break from fast-paced and stressful days, transporting me to often cute and charmingly scenic worlds. Playing and voicing these cute characters, even the ones who mainly express themselves without words, give me a heartwarming feeling.

I also love that my voice is much more athletic than I am in real life, and I’ve had fun adding my voice to a few sports-themed games. Through the power of voice acting I can be the greatest trick shot point guard leading my team to an easy victory! Victory dance included!

I love Educational Games that make learning engaging and can even make homework fun.

I love Match 3 games and the excitement of Slot Games and vocally cheering players on.

And of course, the ultimate thrill is getting a chance to play a superhero – or rather, she-ro!

But even NPCs have recently been getting the love they deserve, so why not use real actors to voice them? There’s no such thing as a character too small in the gaming world!

I think it’s important to honor all the ways good voice acting can enhance the gaming experience. Whenever I play I’m sure to keep my ear out for all the ways voiceover makes games better. From memorable one-liners to nuanced reactions, to dramatic cut scenes or epic narration, there are so many ways that voice actors are an important player on the game development team and one of the main ways gamers personally connect with games.

The gaming community is diverse in age and culture, and constantly growing with each generation of new gamers! Voice actors should also mirror that diversity.

It’s amazing that I am able to work with so many game creators literally all over the world!
